Due to addition of margin around the images, the html gets distorted. Incidentally the solution to fix this issue is very simple. Just add ‘display: block;‘ in image’s inline style.

Example:
<img src="image_name.jpg" border="0: style="display: block;" />

For the safer side you can add ‘margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt;‘ along with the display.

Example:
<img src="image_name.jpg" border="0" style="margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt;  display: block;" />

I have done the cross browser testing and find working smoothly for me. Hope it will work for all.

The first look of site is similar to hulu.com in structure.  Like all video content base site video player have very important place. Now days every one is emphasizing on user experience with the player. The player of this site is unique in many ways.

The player is having all regular features which video players have now a day like playing controls, share, embed, rate etc.  

But the feature which is very unique and attracted me to write this post is ‘controls’. When you click on ‘controls’ the  panel opens with the player with some outstanding  controlling options, where you can control the video’s ‘color’, ‘brightness’, ‘contrast’ and ‘quality’.

You can control video color, brightness and contrast for the playing video like you do in your TV as per your requirement. The site is having the ‘Lights On/Off’ feature also. All these give the user a unique experience in online video viewing.

So as an end user I can say “HEY!! I HAVE GOT THE POWER!”

My colleague Prashant has introduced me with a very good website academicearth.org. Academic Earth is a website with online video lectures covering a wide range of subjects. Website is clean looking with easy navigation. Videos are of excellent quality and plays smoothly.

But I am not writing this post to discuss the site; I just want to focus a particular feature which this site has i.e. “Dim the lights”. It is a lovely user experience. You can find it at the top right side of the video player. Just experience academicearth.org yourself…

Sometime back I have placed a poll focusing on user experience for social networking sites at the left side of this blog. A good number of people had visited my blog but the number of people has voted is not very exciting (I am not disclosing the number). Here I am just placing the results I have received to discuss and for your valuable comments. 46% people voted for facebook.com’s user experience and 38% given orkut.com second position.

Hi5.com and bigadda.com got only 4% and they are far behind in the list. Bigadda.com is only focusing India and people outside India even may not be aware of this social network.

Interestingly in the ‘other’ networks people voted only for linkedin.com no any other site added by the visitors. Linkedin.com got 8% of the votes.

I know the results with little votes are may not give the perfect picture. I am going to keep the same poll in the main post for sometime and request you to cast your vote.

Kayak.in is quite a new site for India and people from this continent, and cleratrip.com for others. But both the sites are very similar in look & feel and even in user experience however revenue models are different. 

Let’s review some of the features of the sites:

Navigation:

Kayak has left site navigation and cleartrip have top navigation.  

Kayak’s US site is having eight links at and Indian version have only three as they are not dealing in may traveling/holiday products. Cleartrip is also not having list of links, just have only four links. 

In US version of kayak when you click on particular link the site color also changes along with the logo color. It is good from user point of view as it is showing that particular link is active.  I don’t understand why they are changing logo color; in fact people try to stick on brand colors in any situation.

Color changing is not taking place in kayak.in and even in cleartrip.

Search form:

Form for searching is almost similar in all the sits and act in same way except one feature which in not in cleartrip. (I am comparing “Flight” link as it is common in all tree).

When you start felling the form in kayak and feel the “from” and “to” fields and move to depart date a chart/calendar get appear next to the search showing “best fare”. 

Search Process & results:

Search process is faster in cleartrip then kayak, may be because they are fetching data different way or different type.

The result page is again similar in many ways. Primarily Page is divided in to 2 parts, left filters and then results. Kayak has one more part next to results and it is space for advertisements.

Let of the page shows filters to refine your search and interestingly they are similar (it is possible, they are in same industry). Cleartrip filter panel stick on place when you scroll the page vertically.

Result section in cleartrip is very clear and shows the results to the point without any confusion. Kayak is trying to show results by two ways “list view” and “matrix view” with some filter options.

When you choose some flight its redirects you the airline site, opposite to this cleartrip book your ticket keeping you with the site. 

As I am comparing the both cleartrip and kayak for resemblances and not reviewing, I am skipping all other features which are unique.  Even in this process I may fail to mention some fascinating characteristic, please share the same along with your views.

I have my views for this website are layman’s point of view no technical aspect, just experience i.e. user experience. The site is very simple looking with white back ground, black text and default blue colored links.

This feature rich site is fast and smooth. Flight & train tickets and hotel booking have plain, to the point interface, no distraction at all.

Best part of this travel portal is “MORE”; under this menu you will find some very interesting links for Air fare calendar, Air fare graphs and Air fare alerts etc.

I am not going to write much, just review your-self and experience the rich experience.

In fact the design of this page is very simple and to the point. There is no confusion or destruction and it leads the user to either broadband site or DVD rental site.

Let’s view the design closely. The wide carousel showing available titles is very common now days. You can find the Ajax code for such presentation free of cost from the web, but how it is used in the site is interesting. It has used Spry frame work for the same.

You can move it left right using linearly using arrows from the both side once you reach to the last title the arrow get disable. Other option is also available i.e. non-linear way to view the featured titles. At the right top side of the carousal ten squire boxes represents each title. You can view any particular title just clicking on particular box.

All the titles featured on the page may be available on both the section of the side or may be available on any one of the section. To represent this you can get one or two buttons at the right side just below the video window. These buttons appears dynamically, so user understands clearly in which section to go.

The most attractive part of this page is trailer window which represents the respective title. What is unique about it?

If we closely view the trailer window you will find that it is above the carousel images and it is not moving along with image and buttons. The window is in a layer above other contents of the page.

When you place something in layer it is utter possible that it may shift in different screen resolutions (even in different browsers) and it was same in this case also. It is fixed and controlled by CSS. Different style sheet is used for different resolution and also hacked for cross-browser issues. And due this user is not experiencing any unexpected experience.
